Colonia Gral. Alvear
Entre Rios - Argentina
Eichhorn in Colonia Gral. Alvear
In January 1878 a group of Germans from Volga arrived at the port of Diamante. They settled in an unpopulated area about 14 km upstream on the Paraná River (about 38 km downstream from the town of Paraná), founding the General Alvear Colony.
Over time the villages were founded around this settlement:
1. Aldea Spatzenkutter (10 km east).
2. Aldea Grapschental (9 km east of the village Spatzenkutter).
3. Aldea Valle María (13 km southeast), where the Stella Maris retirement home was created.
4. Aldea Protestante (5 km southeast of the Valle María village), which has the oldest immigrant cemetery.
5. Aldea Salto (possibly over the Salto stream, which flows into the Paraná river about 10 km north).
6. Aldea Brasilera (12 km northeast), where they built the San José church, in German Gothic style.
7. Aldea San Francisco.
The Eichhorn family arrives at the port of Buenos Aires in December 1886, after a few days they are transferred to Protestant Village in Colonia Gral. Alvear, Province of Entre Rios.
